Cheers from the other side of the planet! Every gal needs a holiday, some time to get away. The hubby and I trekked our way through the south-eastern European country of Albania. Maybe it’s not the most popular of Euro vacation destinations, but we couldn’t have enjoyed ourselves more and we’ve got the pictures to prove it. Check out the top left for a communist bunker from the Enver Hoxha days – yikes! We spotted this historical mark while zipping down the highway en route to Krujë, Albania. In my book there’s only one word for Krujë, and that’s GOREGOUS! Picture a tiny town lined in cobblestone streets, layered with brightly colored villas, all with an ancient castle sitting high atop the city. It’s like a fairytale. Everywhere you turn in Krujë there is a bit of history - abundant with shops full of hand-made crafts, women weaving carpets, men carving wooden wares, and tons of local costumes and jewelry for sale. That black getup (without the heavy metal) will run you about 2000 euros, that’s WELL over $3000!
The weather was extremely hot, about 42°C, just over 107°F, but no humidity! Slightly bizarre to the NYC gal who is use to sweltering nyc summers! Naturally, I stayed cool in my deep purple Thalia dress! The hubby was heat resistant too, rocking his Malia Mills badmeister shorts.
We’ll miss you Albania! Until next time – Arta, MM store maven, Montecito, California
