we have a powerful potential in our youth, and we must have the courage to change old ideas and practices so that we may direct their power toward good ends’ - mary mcleod bethune
empowering our youth is one of the most important things that we can do, especially when it comes to giving young girls a voice.
girlup.org, a partner of the united nations, focuses on empowering young girls in america to reach out and empower girls in other countries.
the foundation centers on girls ages 10-19. close to half of today’s 1.2 billion young people between the ages of 10 and 19 are adolescent girls, and most of them live in developing countries. many girls struggle for basic opportunities, such as schooling, medical care, and inclusion in their communities. by making these opportunities available to girls, we can make a lifelong impact on their well-being and the well-being of their families, communities, and our world for generations to come.
the girls are encouraged to give a ‘high five’ to girls in other countries. by donating $5, girls in countries like ethiopia, liberia, guatamela and malawi are give access to school supplies, life-saving health services, safety from violence and clean water.
we all know how extremely important it is to give young girls a voice. now is our time to band together and stand up. that is why this month we are proud to donate to girlup.org. join us by donating at their website http://www.girlup.org/donate/
